French « Gardes du Corps du Roy » sword, Louis XVI regn

French « Gardes du Corps du Roi » (the king’s bodyguards) sword, last quarter of XVIIIth century. Silvered brass mounting (30 % of original silver plate are still present). Egg-shaped pommel with upper long rivet piece. Round guard and « ball » quillon. All silver wired grip with two silver rings on tops, ornate with engraved lines. Large symmetrical plate (The pommel is still well adjusted but both plate and guard are moving a little). The whole mounting is deeply engraved with ondulating lines. This very particular design was dedicated to « Gardes du Corps du Roy ». Triangular Solingen blade (85,7 cm) in grey patina, with a deep fuller on the internal side. It is engraved on rear (7 cm)and on both sides, with weapons trophys and flowers. (Except the blade, this sword is exactly the same as the one depicted in the French edge weapons « bible » (Ariès books 1966/n°2)). With the French monarchy falling and then during the Revolution period, the most part of the Guard members were slaughtered (This scarce sword was originally found in Versailles area). French « uniform » sword

« uniform » Infantry officer sword, circa end of XVIIIth century. Golded brass mounting (still 10% of original gold plate). Antique helmet pommel, curved guard and symetrical plate. The grip was entirely covered with an old gold piece of braid. Heavy lenticular blade in grey patina (77,5 cm and 2,5 cm on rear) engraved on first part with long rectangular designs on both sides. Good black leather scabbard (an old restauration on the lower part) with two brass pièces. Price : 550 Euros....

General sword, pattern 1852 All golded brass mounting (70% of original gold plate : gold on reverse shell is erased) Eagle pommel, turtle grip with wire. The shell with the Imperial eagle on six flags in the middle. On both sides, the genral rank silver stars. The reverse is marked : « FD Feur BREVETE DE SM L’EMPEREUR » Mobile opposite shell (one of the pivots is present but Brocken, so the shell can’t be blocked in close position). French brigadier general sword, circa Second Empire

General sword pattern 1852. All golded brass mounting (80% of original gold plate) Eagle pommel, turtle grip with wire. The shell with in the middle an Imperial eagle on six flags. On both sides, the two brigadier general rank silver stars. Mobile reverse shell (fully functionnal) marked « M on SPIQUEL et Cie à PARIS ». Blade (82,3cm) in mint conditions, engraved « Coulaux et Cie à Klingenthal » on rear. Rare « king Henri IV bust model » French officer sword. Silver plated brass mounting (still 90 % of original silver plate). Very well engraved and ciseled Henri IV bust pommel. Guard engraved with central round design and laurels on both sides. Half-moon plate with round tops and antique weapons trophy in the middle. Engraved ebony grip (some is missing on upper rear). Triangular white blade (83 cm), engraved with classical flowers on first half. There is still more than 90 % of original blue and gold present (some light rust points on blue on rear). This blade is engraved « IGB » on rear (for Johan and Clemens Boegel in Solingen). Lamb skin on wood scabbard, with two silver plated elements, engraved with laurels (as often, the lamb skin was originaly white painted. With age, the original surface colour is now more Brown than white). Price : 850...

French civilian sword « gold and steel » style, circa Louis XV.

Very nice French civilian sword, Louis XV era. All steel mounting, ball pommel with a top piece. Ball quillon, functionnal « pas d’âne » and clam shell plate. Wood grip all wired with alternated big and small wires. The whole mounting is deeply engraved with palms laurels and flowers. The deepests parts are gold plated and for contrasting, the designs are in steel colour. Heavy blade (84 cm lenght for 2,7 cm on rear) in grey patina (erased engravings on first half) Good leather on wood scabbard (leather is a little dry on several parts) with three steel pièces gold plated on the sides. French « état-major » officer sword, circa Restauration.

French « état-major » sword, circa restauration era. Silver plated brass mounting. Pommel engraved with the « état-major » design. Flat flower quillon. Ebony grip. Half moon plate with lions on both sides, in the middle the French Royal lys flowers are supported by Swords, axes and antique helmets. « Demi-espadon » blade (83cm) in grey patina, engraved with classical flowers (some gold is still present on rear of the blade). The back is marked  « I S et  C » (for Johann Schimelbush and Co in Solingen). Leather on wood scabbard (old but later) with two silver plated brass elements. Price : 550 Euros....

Nice French civilian sword, circa Regency/Louis XV era. All brass mounting, « rocaille » style. Pommel, guard, plate and all parts are heavily and deeply engraved with drums and musical instruments. « fat » wood grip, wired with both round and flat wires. Large blade (2,6 cm on rear for  79,5 cm lenght) in grey patina. It shows on the first part and on both sides fine geometrical engravings and a latin phrase.
