French pattern 1855 « Infanterie de Marine » officer saber.

French « Infanterie de Marine » officer saber, circa IIIrd republic. All ciseled and golded brass mounting. Long pommel, wired black horn grip. Round guard with a ring on the upper part. Holeworked plate, ornated with scrolls, palms and leaves. The medium part with an anchor on four flags. Hooked quillon. White slow curved blade (81,5 cm), engraved on back : « Mre d’Arme de Chât t Fevrier 1882 Ad Inf rie de Marine 1855 ». Black leather on wood scabbard with three golded brass elements, fully engraved. French light cavalry officer saber pattern 1822

French light cavalry officer saber pattern 1822, modified 1882 (one single ring on scabbard). Ciseled and golded brass mounting. Short pommel engraved with laurel palms. The upper part of the main branch ornated with flowers and leaves. The two secundary branchs basis, engraved on both sides with laurel designs. The rear of the plate is deeply engraved with a large palm. Wired black horn grip. Curved white blade (93 cm), engraved on rear, with the Parisian maker « Backes » trade mark. Steel scabbard with a single ring (some light rust spots and two little deeper marks on the middle part of the cutting edge side). Need to be cleaned : a cleaning was already start on both pommel and grip but the main part of original gold plate seems to be still present under some light black deposit. Price : 280 Euros.  ...

French « état-major » high rank officer sword

Very nice French high rank « etat-major » officer sword, circa First Empire. All ciseled and golded brass mounting (70 % of original gold plate are still present). Pommel engraved with leaves, laurels and on lower parts of both sides, the specific etat-major design : « cigars and lightnings ». Curved guard engraved with laurels and on both sides, an eagle head in the central part. « Lions heads » plate (a little crack on reverse), deeply engraved with laurels and various military designs. In the middle, a laurels crown around a silver Napoleon profile. The original Imperial design of this sword was removed in 1814, with the king Louis XVIII return. But when Napoleon was back, during the « 100 jours » period, the original owner of this sword, choosen to « re-initialized » it, with a riveted Imperial silver coin. This particular mounting seems to have been very popular during this short period, according to various items of the same period (samples of Imperial guard Infantry officers sabers, for example, can be seen in various publications). In fact, this system appears to have been the fastest and cheaper one. Triangular blade (77,5 cm) in grey patina, with classical flowers designs, engraved on rear : « Goze Md fourbisseur à Metz ». Black leather on wood scabbard with two ciseled brass elelments. French Gendarmerie NCO sword, pattern 1853, modified 1872. All brass mounting, oval pommel and flat guard marked « 180 » on the internal part. Grip engraved with laurels and leaves.
